The first section covers AI call QA in general and applies to any vendor. The second covers OttoQA specifically.
AI call QA basics
What is AI call QA?
AI call QA (also called automated QA or auto QA) uses speech-to-text and a language model to answer the questions on a QA form for a recorded interaction. Instead of an analyst listening to a call and filling in the form, the AI reads the transcript, answers each question, gives a score and explains why. Analysts then review exceptions, calibrate and coach.
How is it different from speech analytics?
Speech analytics finds patterns across many calls: topics, keywords, sentiment, silence. Older auto-scoring tools used those signals to tick boxes, which works for "did the agent say the disclosure" but struggles with "did the agent show empathy." Generative AI QA reads the whole conversation and answers the question the way an analyst would. Most modern platforms now use a mix.
How accurate is AI call scoring?
Vendors commonly state 90% to 95% agreement with human scorers. Those numbers are measured on the vendor's own data and definitions. Accuracy on your calls depends on audio quality, transcription, and above all how clearly your form questions are written. Vague questions like "was the agent professional?" produce inconsistent scores from humans and AI alike. Measure it yourself on 100 to 200 calls your team has already graded, and compare per question, not just per call.
Should AI score every call?
Not necessarily. Scoring 100% helps for compliance monitoring, where one missed disclosure matters. For coaching and performance trends, a statistically valid sample per agent is usually enough and costs less. Manual programs typically review only a small percentage of calls, often 1% to 2%, so even a modest automated sample is a large step up. See How Many QA Evaluations Do You Need Per Agent?
Does AI QA replace QA analysts?
It replaces most of the listening and form-filling. It does not replace judgment. Analysts become calibrators and coaches: reviewing disputed scores, refining form questions, spotting trends and working with supervisors. Many centers move analysts into coaching rather than cutting the role.
Post-call QA or real-time agent assist?
They solve different problems. Real-time assist (Balto, Cresta, and modules from Level AI, CallMiner and NICE) prompts agents during the call. Post-call QA scores the call afterward and drives coaching. Real-time tools prevent mistakes in the moment; post-call QA shows patterns and builds skill over time. Many centers run both.
How are AI QA tools priced?
Three ways: per seat (evaluagent from $35/user/mo, Zendesk's QA bundle at $50/agent/mo), per evaluation or usage (OttoQA, Rippit), or bundled with a contact center platform (NICE CXone suites from $110 to $249/agent/mo). Many enterprise vendors are quote only. Our 2026 roundup has a worked example.
What should enterprise and smaller buyers look for?
Smaller centers should prioritize published pricing, no seat minimums, short contracts and setup done for them. Enterprises usually need real-time assist, screen recording, SSO, data residency and deep integrations, and accept longer procurement in exchange. Our 2026 roundup maps each tool to the size of customer it fits.
What about compliance and sensitive data?
Ask every vendor where audio and transcripts are stored, how long they are kept, how card numbers, PII and PHI are redacted, and which certifications they hold (SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI DSS). In healthcare, ask for a BAA. For collections and financial services, confirm the AI can be told to check specific required disclosures as auto-fail items.
About OttoQA
What is OttoQA?
OttoQA is AI quality assurance software for contact centers. It scores calls, chats and emails against your own QA forms, then generates weekly coaching plans, call summaries, behavior trends and predicted CSAT and NPS. It was built by Expivia, a 600+ seat BPO in Erie, PA.
Is OttoQA for enterprise or smaller contact centers?
OttoQA's core customers are small and mid-size contact centers and BPOs, roughly 10 to 500 agents, that want AI QA without seat licenses, annual contracts or an IT project. BPOs of any size are a strong fit because pricing follows evaluations, not headcount, and many client forms can run side by side. Enterprises can use OttoQA for a department or as a QA and coaching layer next to an existing platform, with custom pricing above 10,000 evaluations a month. Enterprises that want real-time assist, screen recording and AI agents from one vendor are usually better served by CallMiner, Observe.AI, Level AI or NICE CXone.
How does OttoQA work?
- Send your QA form, in any format including Excel.
- OttoQA's QA specialists build your form into the platform, question by question.
- OttoQA scores 200 of your calls and you compare them to your own scores.
- The team calibrates until scores match your standard.
- Calls are scored automatically from then on, and coaching plans arrive weekly.
How much does OttoQA cost?
OttoQA is usage-based, starting at $800 a month for 500 evaluations, with a $1,000 one-time setup. There are no seat licenses. It is month to month, with 5% off for a 6-month term and 10% off for 12. Every plan includes every feature. Above 10,000 evaluations a month, pricing is custom. See ottoqa.com/pricing for the calculator.
Can we try it before committing?
Yes. The 200-call proof of concept lets you compare AI scores with your own team's scores before you commit. The $1,000 setup covers it. Start by booking a 15-minute demo.
Does OttoQA need IT or an integration project?
No. OttoQA works from your existing call recordings and help desk exports, so most teams are live in days.
What languages and channels does it support?
Voice, chat and email, in any language.
What is Redo?
Redo is OttoQA's AI role-play trainer. When an agent fails a scenario on a real call, they can practice it with an AI customer before their next shift. It is included in every plan.
What does OttoQA not do?
It does not provide real-time in-call prompts, screen recording, call routing or AI voice agents. If you need those, see our comparisons with CallMiner, Level AI and Observe.AI.
Is OttoQA the same as other "Otto" products?
No. OttoQA (ottoqa.com) is AI quality assurance software for contact centers. It is not related to other products or companies named "Otto".
